Strategies for Charging Your Cell Phone

So charging your cell phone isn't hard right? Just plug it in as often as you think of it, every day is good, letting it go until it beeps at you relentlessly isn't. While this seems like a common sense approach to charging your cell phone, it isn't the best way to maximize your cell phone's battery life. Charging your cell phone effectively isn't hard but there are a few things you should consider doing, and habits you should break, to make sure your cell phone's battery lasts as long as it can. After all a new battery can cost almost as much as a new cell phone.

Charging your cell phone every day seems like a good idea but in fact it can work against you. Cell phone batteries have a memory and are designed to fully charge each time you plug them in. If you plug your cell phone in everyday while it still has half a charge or more, it will get used to only holding a partial charge and stop charging fully if it gets drained all the way. You should only charge your cell phone every other day or so when the charge gets mostly depleted, but before it starts beeping at you.

Extreme temperatures can also drain your cell phones battery life. Most people don't spend lots of time in extreme heat or cold but many people do leave their cell phones in their cars during the winter and summer. Extreme temperatures can wreak havoc on your battery's life so take it with you and avoid leaving it in the car or the middle of the desert. You will find yourself charging your cell phone less if you keep the battery in good condition and you won't have to get a new one as soon.
Most of us are used to talking on a cordless or cellular phone so we don't really think about plugging them in while talking. But if you want to prolong your cell phone's battery life, charging your cell phone while talking on it is a good way to preserve the battery. You will be using power form the wall instead of the battery if you plug it in while talking in the house. Just don't forget it's plugged in and accidentally rip the cord out of the wall. As long as you remember these tips when charging your cell phone your battery should live a good long life.

I had a bad experience with cell phone battery too. The battery became bloated without my knowledge and I couldn't trade in the cell phone to my telco company.

Heard that bloated battery can explode if keep on charging?

This is not true.

"While this is true of older cellphone models, which use batteries like NiCd and NiMH, cellphones which use newer batteries like Li-Ion and Li-Ion Polymer can be charged every day without undermining performance or battery life."
